Day 71...Food for Thought July 21, 2017 We awoke up to the sound of a slow drizzle. It was completely done raining by the time we had packed up and started hiking. Last night I had typed up the blog, saved it as a draft, and was going to send it in the morning. Unfortunately, when I turned on my phone today, it had only the first 2 sentences of the blog saved. Well, I stopped hiking to type it up again and Plant went on ahead. Just as I was sending the blog, I got a call from Kate, first time in about 2 months. Kate had hiked the

Day 70...1,400 miles July 20, 2017 Today we crossed the 1,400 mile mark on the Appalachian Trail or almost two-thirds of the way through our expedition. This morning, I woke up and thought I had slept in, but after finding my watch, it turned out to be 5 am, that was a relief. Like the other day, there were mosquitos swarming around us, so I had a hard time trying to fall back to sleep. Turned out that Plant's back and shoulders got destroyed by the mosquitoes. It reminded me of the time several years ago when Plant and I went on

Day 69...Blueberries! July 19, 2017 I slept soundly through my alarm, but still got up around 6 am, finished packing everything, and headed downstairs to breakfast. We had scrambled eggs with the leftover squash, and toast. We left the house at 7 am. It took about an hour to drive to back to the trail where we had stopped just two days before. Once we got there, Plant and I thanked David for his generous hospitality, and said our goodbyes. It was an interesting section we hiked through today. It was very rocky and in some

Day 68...A very full zero day July 18, 2017 I had planned on sleeping late on our zero day, but last night I took off my watch and forgot to turn off the alarm. It woke me up at 5:25 am, and by the time I realized what was happening, I was fully awake. So I went downstairs and grabbed a slice of leftover pizza. Plant and I aired our gear out. And we figured out what had gone wrong with the hip belt order. It had shipped to David's home address instead of his P.O. Box, the US Post Office does not deliver to his house. The package also
